Chronological Search

Chronological Search (From the Meiji, Taisho and Showa eras)

chronological1

You can specify the articles from major events in a chronological list by clicking the “Chronological Search” button at the bottom of the main page under “Current Topics.” This is especially useful when the specific word or kanji of a particular historical event is unclear.

Select the year you wish to search from the pull-down menu (the default value is “1874 [ Meiji 7] – 1900 [Meiji 33]”). The searchable period is from 1874 to 1989 (the first year of the Heisei era).

The chronology is divided into four parts for the 53-year period from 1874 (Meiji 7) to 1927 (Showa 2), but from then until 1989, it is by year.

Each chronology summarizes major events, and a list of key words is shown in blue.

Select and click on the word you want to look up from this list, and a list of related article headlines for that year will appear in the search results. You can then select the article you want to read.

From 1874 to 1985, you will see a full image of the paper, and you can zoom in on the area where the blue pin is.

From 1986 to 1989, there is a mixture of data with only the image of the paper and data with only the text of the article.
